HIPAA stands for the federal law titled Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act. The HIPAA law has several components.
This site addresses the Privacy part of the HIPAA laws which were
designed to insure privacy of individuals' health information.
This section provides a detailed description of all the policies
and practices which the UC Physicians follow in order to maintain
privacy and confidentiality of the healthcare records of all their
patients. When a patient first receives healthcare services from
one of the groups of UC Physicians, he or she will be provided this
Notice of Privacy Policies and be asked to sign an acknowledgement
of having received it.

This section provides a variety of documents that have been developed
as the HIPAA Privacy laws have been proposed, changed and eventually
finalized by Congress on August 14, 2002. These documents are
designed
as helpful tools and summaries during this process.
This section provides a listing of additional organizations and
internet sites that are available to help individuals and groups
understand these new laws and put them into practice.
The Task Force site is for all persons of UC Physicians who have
been working hard to understand the new HIPAA Privacy laws and develop
policies and practices within UC Physicians to ensure compliance
with the laws and privacy protection for their healthcare patients.
